Some Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How long does the session last for?
      When your session slot time starts, you will attend the educational talk for 20-30 minutes (on selected months), Then you will drive for approximately 45 minutes. Total time 1 hour 20 minutes (when educational talk is included), 45 minutes (at any other time).
  2. How often can I attend the Young Driver sessions?
      Once a month S.L.Y.D.E is held at Colchester, Essex on a Sunday. To see the upcoming dates for both venues, please see the column to your right.
  3. What time do the sessions start?
      The sessions start at 8.30am, then run hourly 9.30am, 10.30am, 11.30am etc. up until the final session at 4.30pm.
  4. Do I have to attend every session?
      No. you can attend once or as many times as you want. It's totally up to you how many sessions you attend per year. The courses we run will be tailored so that every month you attend it will be different each visit learning new skills and growing in confidence.
  5. How old do I need to be to attend the S.L.Y.D.E sessions?
      Young Drivers must be at least 14 years of age upwards plus the perfect place for over 17s who are Nervous and would like to experience driving in a relaxed and safe environment before they go out on to the road. (NO Licence required) and all pupils must be able to physically reach the controls of the vehicle.
  6. It's my first time at S.L.Y.D.E, what do I do?
      Arrive at the venue 5-10 minutes before your session time, report to our reception where you will be welcomed by a member of the team and checked in. You will then be taken into our presentation room with your parents and after a 30 minute presentation (on selected months), your driving instructor will call your name and show you the way to your vehicle.
  7. What will I do during my driving session?
      We will teach Young Drivers about road safety and car control; this will include gear changes, parking, smooth driving, all reverse manoeuvres, dealing with junctions, roundabouts, crossroads and much more. We will also be able to answer any questions you may have.
  8. My Young Driver has a disability, will they be able to attend the S.L.Y.D.E sessions?
      Any disability must be declared, but this information will be treated in the strictest confidence. Please contact us to discuss this further.
  9. How do I book another S.L.Y.D.E session?
      You can re-book by either speaking with a member of the team before or after your S.L.Y.D.E session or alternatively, visit and click on the book now tab.
  10. I am going to be 17 soon?
      As you approach your 17th birthday we can put you with a local instructor that works in your area and can then continue with your lessons on the road in the same vehicle.
  11. I am over 17 now, but do not feel ready to go on the main road yet, how or can S.L.Y.D.E help me?
      S.L.Y.D.E is open to all ages. If your nervous or unsure of going out on the road you are more than welcome to continue with your off road tuition until you feel ready to continue on the main road.

  13. Does S.L.Y.D.E ever get cancelled? And if so, what happens to my payment?
      Slyde will only be cancelled due to major weather disruption and your payment will be moved onto the following date.
  14. What happens to my payment if I cancel my S.L.Y.D.E session with more than 7 days' notice?
      If you wish to re-book for a different month, the payment will then be transferred over to the new date. If you wish to cancel altogether, then a refund will be issued.
  15. What happens to my payment if I cancel my S.L.Y.D.E session with less than 7 days' notice?
      Unfortunately, payment will be forfeited in the event of a cancellation if less than seven days' notice has been given.

As a Spectator. We have a hospitality area at Colchester, Essex from which you can watch the action. There is a Cafe to get a tea, coffee, soft drink or snack.
